The Green Mile
Masterfully told and as suspenseful as it is haunting, The Green Mile is Stephen King’s classic #1 New York Times bestselling dramatic serial novel and inspiration for the Oscar-nominated film starring Tom Hanks.
Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, the residence of the battle-worn men of E Block, scarred by the hardships of the Depression. All are convicted murderers, each waiting for their turn to traverse “the Green Mile,” the pale-colored linoleum corridor that leads to a final encounter with Old Sparky, Cold Mountain’s electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has witnessed many strange things during his years working on the Mile, but nothing compares to his encounter with John Coffey – a man possessing the stature of a giant yet the innocence of a child, sentenced for a crime so brutal and depraved that it shocks the conscience. In this place of ultimate judgment, Edgecombe is about to uncover a profound and astonishing truth about John Coffey – one that will challenge his deepest convictions

An unforgettable and emotional novel. John Coffey has to be the sweetest character King has ever written along with Paul Edgecomb. The ending left me feeling emotionally numb because of the injustice that occurred. The movie adaptation of the novel series is just as good if not better. Personally, I rank this novel in the same level as IT and The Stand.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a beautiful story with interesting characters. The reader is one of the best I have ever heard. It is the story of 1932 death row prison, the guards and the prisoners. A new prisoner comes on the block who is very large with a special gift.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Green Mile?
When Koffee says that the two girls died for love of each other. I had read this story years ago but that line and the explanation behind it has never left me.

Frank’s performance could not have been better. His use of voice volume, articulating each word, and not rushing a scene were frosting on the cake to a great story.

The story is touching and moved me with the power that empathy has for the characters.
