I absolutely adored The Last Thing He Told Me. Even years after its 2021 release, the story still lingers in my mind. So, you can imagine my thrill when I received an invitation to read an ARC of the sequel - a project I never even knew was happening!
The narrative catches up with Hannah and Bailey five years after Owen vanished. They've built a new life, anchored by their bond with Owen's father, Nicholas. While Owen's absence is a permanent ache, they've found a way forward. Bailey has blossomed into a young woman, and Hannah has fiercely protected their fragile peace. But that peace shatters in an instant when Hannah spots Owen at her latest art exhibition, forcing them back into a state of high alert.
Despite years of contingency planning, the sudden flight is no less terrifying. With Nicholas's guidance, they escape to Paris, where the dark truths about Owen's family - and his disappearance - finally begin to unravel.
Revisiting this world was an absolute joy. The sequel picks up the threads from the first book flawlessly. Though my memory of some finer details had faded over time, I slipped back into the story with ease. It was particularly rewarding to see the woman Bailey has become and to witness the profound, hard-worn evolution of her relationship with Hannah. Their stepmother-daughter dynamic is the series' true heartbeat.
I'm already hoping for more - a novella, a third book, anything! I realized just how much I had missed these characters.

- While I usually appreciate chapter titles, the exceptionally long ones here occasionally pulled me out of the story's flow.

I would suggest reading The Last Thing He Told Me first (or re-reading it prior to reading this book).

Awesome book and a very much anticipated sequel to “The Last Thing he Told me.” I watched the Apple TV series Season 1 and anxiously waiting for season 2 in February.

4.5 stars! I really really enjoyed the audiobook. It was well narrated by a full cast. It kept me engaged and wanting more the whole time. Love how smart Hannah is for figuring everything out and putting it together and Owen too. It kept me guessing. But now I need more.. not even a prologue?!
