Alice Feeney’s "My Husband’s Wife" marks my fifth journey into her thrilling worlds, and I can confidently say this is her magnest work yet – a significant claim, given how deeply I've admired her previous novels.
As a devoted thriller reader, I rarely find myself truly stunned, but this book proved the exception. Just when I believed I had unraveled its secrets, another jaw-dropping twist would leave me reeling. The mastery of the plot is exceptional.
Set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of Cornwall, the story weaves a complex web around trust, identity, gaslighting, and the fierce, sometimes destructive, nature of love. It’s a profound exploration that lingers long after the final page.
I experienced this novel through the audiobook, narrated by the phenomenal Bel Powley, Henry Rowley, and Richard Armitage. Their performances didn't just tell the story; they immersed me in it, adding layers of tension and emotion I might have missed in print. I wholeheartedly recommend this format.
The premise initially felt familiar – a woman returns from a run to find her keys useless and a stranger in her home claiming to be her, with her own husband as a witness. But let me assure you, from that moment on, it veers into brilliantly original and unpredictable territory. I was completely captivated.
My heart and allegiance belonged to Olivia "Birdy" Bird, the tenacious police officer navigating the investigation. Her perspective grounded the spiraling mystery.
This is a novel that gets under your skin. Unease is a constant companion. The relentless, short chapters create a breathless pace, making the book impossible to put down. Perceptions of every character shift like sand, yet the intricate plot remains clever and coherent, never confusing.
I will be pressing "My Husband’s Wife" into the hands of every thriller-loving friend. Without a doubt, this is my first standout contender for the best books of 2026.

this book is twist after twist after twist. somehow every time you think you’ve figured it out, there’s something new unraveling! multiple POVs, shifting timelines, unreliable everything, and a plot that constantly keeps you on edge without ever being too scary! plus I think it sticks the landing. with this many moving pieces, I couldn’t figure out how it all would come together but of course it did … With ease! she’s a mastermind! it’s tense, clever & ridiculously unpardonable.

BANGER ALERT!! BANGER ALERT!! A fast-paced thrill ride full of epic twists and unforgettable turns, My Husband’s Wife was Alice Feeney at the top of her game. With her standard quotable prose and atmospheric vibe, my all-time favorite author managed to outdo even herself this time around. You see, thanks to a complex story line that only got better with every page, my jaw was quite literally on the floor from beginning to end. Gasp-inducing in every sense of the word, the “HOLY S!” twists got me every time. Even better, however, were the two perfectly timed plot lines. Filled with long-buried secrets, well-hidden lies, and devious schemes, my mind was reeling in the best possible way as the morally gray characters tried to outsmart one another in these short, cliffhanger chapters.

4.5 stars. WOW. I’m exhausted in the very best way!! Is this completely far fetched? Absolutely yes. Are there parts that you have to turn a blind eye to because you know they would never actually happen in real life? 100%. But did I have the most fun everrrrr reading it? yes yes YES. This was one of the most unputdownable books I’ve read in so long. Dare I say this is my favorite Alice Feeney novel? She is SUCH a genius. I am clueless as to how she is able to throw so many twists and turns at you, combine so many different POV’s and timelines, and somehow manage to make it all come together so seamlessly in the end. Queen!!!
