If you're familiar with Callie Hart's work, you know she doesn't write to soothe the soul. Brimstone is no exception. It seized me from the opening line and held me in its grip, breathless, until the final word.
Let me tell you why.
A Relentless, Electrifying Ride
This story is pure, undiluted momentum. The action is razor-sharp and unyielding - a thrilling cascade of events that never allows for a dull moment. Just when I'd settle into a theory, Hart would masterfully twist the narrative, leaving me wide-eyed and whispering, "Did that really just happen?"
It's a glorious storm of magic, betrayal, and peril that you can't help but revel in.
An Ode to Carrion
I must confess something: Carrion has utterly ruined me for other characters.
From his first appearance, he commanded every scene, becoming the sole focus of my attention for chapters on end. When he's present, the rest of the world simply fades. He's that perfect, intoxicating blend of charm, lethal danger, and captivating chaos that somehow feels like home. A standalone novel devoted entirely to him would be a gift, and I would be the first in line to pre-order it.
On the Matter of Spice
I appreciate romantic tension. I adore chemistry that crackles with energy.
But Brimstone delivers heat at a furnace-like intensity.
There were moments I found myself thinking, "Perhaps save the world first?" as the stakes soared while the characters... connected. The spice is well-written, but its frequency sometimes pulled my focus from the brilliantly unfolding plot. Enjoyable, yet potent enough to require a glass of water nearby.
The World and Its Rhythm
The pacing has its own heartbeat - a few deliberate lulls that quickly give way to frantic sprints. The world-building is expansive and occasionally pauses the breakneck plot, but never long enough to lose me. It felt more like, "Let's absorb this crucial detail so the next explosion makes perfect, devastating sense."

The first book was chefs kiss! I need to stop reading books before the series is finished, this is pure torture. Fingers crossed the second is as great as the first.
This was what I hoped for and more! I loved this book, maybe even more than the first. Especially that I had felt immersed in the world and familiar with the characters. The book flowed greatly, there wasn’t any repetition and stalemates I get when I read the second or third books in a series. I was ENGAGED and couldn’t stop reading. For me it was one of those “one more chapter” type of feeling. There was action, growth, surprises both good and bad, new creatures and jaw dropped mic moments! Seriously what I crave in a fantasy was all here, and thank you for that! One of my top favs.

4.5🌟 I’ve seen so many mixed reviews about this sequel and I completely understand the criticism, however I personally really enjoyed this! Not as much as Quicksilver, but still I had a great time. I loved Carrions Character development, the glimpses of court politics we got in the vampire court, Saeris power developing, the revelations we got throughout this etc. etc. I wish we could’ve had Kingfisher and Saeris together more because it seemed like we only got to see them for spicy scenes and then they were immediately separated again. But guys I’m beyond excited for the next/final instalment!!

I loved being back in this world. The world itself is amazing, but the characters are top tier.
Some questions of mine were answered, new things were discovered and now I’m left with more questions.
Saeris has grown so much since Quicksilver. Her full potential is going to be badass. I don’t think we’ve seen all of it just yet.
Kingfisher, that will always be his name to me, is my favorite MMC. A broody, foul-mouthed, morally grey fae warrior is my kryptonite.
I’m so excited to see relationships grow… I have a feeling about Carrion and someone else.
