All the Way to the River
In 2000, Elizabeth Gilbert crossed paths with Rayya. What started as friendship quickly blossomed into an unbreakable bond, and eventually, they became inseparable. When tragedy struck their lives, the hidden truth was revealed: the two were deeply in love. However, they also shared a dangerous addiction, heading towards a potential disaster.
What if the most beautiful love story you ever experienced turned into your worst nightmare? What if the close friend who helped you understand your self-destructive patterns became the volatile partner who reenacted those same patterns, leading to chaos? And what if your most painful heartbreak became the catalyst for your greatest awakening?
All the Way to the River is a profound memoir that will strike a chord with anyone who has ever been enslaved by love—or any obsession, substance, or desire—and who, at last, longs for freedom.

I didn’t even know I needed such a book. One of the most powerful, wild, incredible journey to find one’s self. That I actually found out about parts of me I didn’t even know about until now. Liz wrote this and my heart exploded near the end. I felt like she wrote this for all the inner child’s who needed someone, for all the addicts who need help, for all the lost who need their version of God. This was transcendent.

I devoured this book in 24 hours. I read the hardback when I was still (and so I could see the drawings) and I listened to the audio version when I was moving (and so I could hear her voice). This is a masterpiece in truth-telling, honesty, love, addiction, life, and ultimately peace and hope. I am gutted by this book; in the most beautiful way. ❤️

Book Review –
As a longtime LG fan I had no doubt this would be an incredible book, a heart breakingly beautiful story. I finished the book in 3 days because I deliberately paced myself to savor it properly. I laughed. I cried. I’m awestruck and gutted. I saw myself in every corner and every character. What a holy and precious tribute to love, loss, liberation, Rayya, Liz, and especially Lizzie.

It feels insincere to use my own words here to describe how impactful the story of Liz and Rayya has had on my heart. It’s raw and real and completely liberating to read. If Lizzie can spill her guts like this, so can we. I have been a partner of an addict and a love addict myself so this really hit home for me. Overall though, this book is about love and grief. I think anyone who has ever loved or grieved can receive wisdom from these words.
