Ever heard of a "book hangover"? Sarah J. Maas left me with a whopper. After finishing A Court of Thorns and Roses, my head was so full of Prythian that I had to download the sequel immediately. The thought of waiting two days for a hardcover felt like a personal slight.
Here’s the thing. I’m a bit of a book snob. I took one look at the cover and assumed it was just another juvenile fantasy - definitely not my cup of tea. But Maas is a master world-builder. She doesn’t just describe Prythian; she makes you feel the chill of the Winter Court and smell the damp earth of the Spring Court. She transports you.
The genius lies in the characters. Feyre begins as a frustrating, vulnerable girl, but her growth into a warrior queen is a journey you feel in your bones. Maas crafts characters who are beautifully flawed, their pasts shaping their present decisions. There are no pure heroes or villains here - just like real life.
As for the romance? It's a slow-burn masterpiece. Maas expertly builds the tension between Feyre and Tamlin, making you ache for that final spark. But I have to be honest - the real electricity seems to crackle between Feyre and Rhysand. That dynamic alone makes the sequel an absolute necessity.
Maas avoids flowery, drawn-out prose. Her writing is clean, engaging, and dangerously addictive. Chapters end on subtle hooks that make you think, "Just one more." The story's pace never slacks. And by using Feyre's first-person perspective, Maas pulls you into the narrative so completely that you become the character. You feel her fear, her determination, and her heartbreak as if it's your own.
The Verdict: Don’t let the YA label fool you. This novel is a masterclass in adult fantasy - complete with breathtaking story, a slow-burn romance that will leave you wanting more, and a world so vivid it will follow you for days. So, what are you waiting for? Go pick up a copy already.

Asdfghjkl I LOVED this book. It took me a little bit to get into just cause there’s a good amount of world building that has to happen at the beginning but then I FLEW through the second half. I loved the world, the politics, the romance, and all the characters. The ending had me on the edge of my seat. And I’ve now immediately gone out and purchased the second book

The lead in was ok, maybe a little long, but not enough to make me stop listening. And I am so happy I continued. The storyline and character building for Thorns & Rose’s is excellent. Absolutely loved the narrator.
You will lose yourself in this book and definitely left me wanting to hear more

Loved this story. I did struggle a bit at first because I kept finding similarities with this and Beauty and the Beast. But of course, once I pushed past that I fell in love with the characters and the slow but steady build the story had over all.
