It is blunt and true, and I commend you for writing it and for being willing to go out there and defend it and talk about it in these blunt terms in a time we really need straight talk.

When the call came from President Biden that late July Sunday, informing me he was ending his reelection bid, the news landed with a jolt. He was mere minutes from announcing it to the world. Not even a full month had passed since that devastating debate - a night where a visibly diminished Biden faced off against a raging Donald Trump. For weeks, he had defiantly resisted the mounting pressure to step aside. Like many, I believed he would push through. Then came his Covid diagnosis, and suddenly, this call.
My first reaction was bewilderment at the suddenness, the rush. Give me a bit more time, I thought, standing there in sweats after a morning making pancakes for my grandnieces. Yet, beneath the surprise, a core certainty steadied me: I knew I was the candidate in the strongest position to win.
But was I? That question hangs in the air throughout "107 Days," my new memoir of that whirlwind campaign. I address it head-on from the outset. The book's early pages show me on the phone immediately after Biden's announcement, taking the temperature of the Democratic establishment. True to my nature, I did the work - and I share the notes from those calls. While most offered swift support, a few responses gave pause. Speaker Pelosi suggested "some kind of primary, not an anointment." As for California Governor Gavin Newsom, an old frenemy? My note was succinct: "Hiking. Will call back. (He never did.)"
The memoir charts the frantic sprint from that day to November 5th - a night so painful for my husband, Doug, and me that we never spoke of it again until I wrote these pages. I was emerging from the shortest presidential campaign in modern history, constantly racing a clock that refused to slow down. "I was in fight mode," I write. "I couldn't let down my guard."
Politicians rarely write truly revealing memoirs, especially those with futures still ahead. When word leaked that I'd collaborated with the brilliant novelist Geraldine Brooks, hopes were raised for something deeper. Yet, even Brooks's formidable skill can only do so much against a subject's ingrained restraint. The former prosecutor in me is most at home laying out facts and building arguments. As I confess in the acknowledgments, I am "task-oriented," rarely granting myself "enough space or time to reflect."
Despite this, the book is a compelling, urgent read - a raw insider's account of political chaos and personal resolve played out on the world's biggest stage. For anyone fascinated by the machinery of a campaign or the weight of history, I highly recommend picking it up. I had mixed feelings about reading this book. Not because I have mixed feelings about Harris, but because the gut-punch from her loss still stings to this day, especially when the news is a constant removal of a barely formed and tentative scab. I wasn’t sure I could handle reliving the trauma of the last election and the outcome.

Kamala Harris is as honest and decent as any politician EVER. She still stands as a brilliant, competent and compassionate leader. This book relays her experiences as she struggles to go against such a high probability of loss to a man that has no decency, integrity and will steamroll over anyone getting in the way of his endless need for money and power. Now our country has to try to dig our way out of the deranged mess that the felon is creating.

Masterpiece: a book to remember –
What a riveting piece of work. Undeniable that the We Won’t Go Back campaign inspired a whole generation! 2028 can’t come sooner #Kamala Project 2028 must be defeated! This book does bring some semblance of closure on the brief and failed Triumph of Trump and Project 2025 because the way this is going I am rest assure this will not end well! Hate can’t win in America We the People won’t be defeated or subverted as an election our voice will be heard go for it @Kamala. What an electing book tour opening I attended at The Hall in NYC moderated by Aaron Parnas a very special experience
